FCB Nyasa Big Bullets coach Peter Mponda has dismissed suggestions that his side should have scored more goals in their 1-0 win over Creck Sporting Club in the Airtel Top 8 quarter-final second leg in Lilongwe on Saturday.
Responding to a question from a reporter at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe, the coach insisted that Bullets did not sign an agreement with anyone guaranteeing more goals.
“I don't know where you are keeping the agreement that Bullets signed with you, promising to score more goals. Creck gave us a fight," he said.
Having carried a 1-0 lead from the first leg, Bullets needed Maxwell Gasten’s 28th-minute strike to see off Joseph Kamwendo’s Creck Sporting Club, a result Mponda said was tough to achieve.
"We knew they would congest the midfield because in the two games we played against them, we dominated, and they quickly resorted to 3-5-2. It wasn't pretty, but we got the result,” Mponda added.
Kamwendo admitted that his side struggled to impose itself on the game and missed scoring chances.
“We tried to create chances where we could have scored one or two goals, but we didn’t have the confidence. It is never too late. We just need to keep working hard and sooner than later, the results will come,” he said.
Bullets now face the overall winner of the quarter-final between Mighty Wanderers FC and Karonga United, who meet on Sunday, April 27. Karonga United won the first leg 1-0.
