Malawi's top-flight league side, Creck Sporting Club, has announced the appointment of Joseph Kamwendo as the Lilongwe-based team's head coach.
It is a promotion for the former TP Mazembe midfielder who worked as an assistant coach to McDonald Mtetemera last season. Mtetemera was eventually sacked over unconvincing results.
"Creck Sporting Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Joseph Kamwendo as a new head coach," the club’s statement reads.
Kamwendo, a CAF B holder, will work with Abel Mkandawire and Harrison Saidi as the first and second assistant coaches.
Creck finished in sixth place last season, 23 points behind eventual champions Silver Strikers.
Kamwendo had a successful playing career at top clubs in Africa including Orlando Pirates in South Africa and Caps United in Zimbabwe.
