Malawi record league champions Nyasa Big Bullets have named Kenyan international Clyde Senaji their new captain ahead of the 2025 season kickoff this coming weekend.

Bullets coach Peter Mponda confirmed the appointment of the central defender as the on-field leader for 16-time league winners.

"Clyde Senaji will be our captain. It wasn't a difficult choice--he is highly experienced and has strong leadership qualities. Having served as vice-captain last season, he is already familiar with the responsibility," he said.

"We wanted someone capable of leading both on and off the pitch, and we are confident he is the man for the job. As a leader, he will inspire his teammates to give their all for the badge."

The Kenyan has replaced Gomezgani Chirwa who left the Blantyre-based team to sign for FC Platinum in Zimbabwe's Premier Soccer League. The former AFC Leopards and Tusker AFC player joined Bullets in 2023 and won back-to-back league titles.

Reacting to the armband, Senaji said:  ""I am deeply honoured and immensely grateful to the coach and the club for entrusting me with the responsibility of being team captain. This appointment is not just a title to me but a profound acknowledgment of the faith you have in my abilities to lead, inspire, and contribute to the success of this incredible team."

Bullets will begin a new chapter under Mponda, who having guided Silver Strikers to their first league title in 11 years in Lilongwe last season, rejoined the former champions to replace Zimbabwean Kalisto Pasuwa.

Mponda was Pasuwa's deputy at Bullets before he sought greener pastures in Lilongwe at Silver last season. Bullets face Silver in the TNM Super League's opener at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.
