FCB Nyasa Big Bullets recorded their biggest TNM Super League win in over a decade after walloping rookies Songwe United 7-0 at Kamuzu Stadium in Malawi’s commercial capital, Blantyre, on Sunday.
With the season in its infancy going into week three, Bullets have looked like the real deal under new coach Peter Mponda, who is back to his childhood club after having steered Silver Strikers of Lilongwe to the Super League title last season.
When play started at the 15,000-seater stadium, the team in red did not disappoint in front of home fans as they lead comfortably 3-0 at half-time over the newly promoted side from the Northern Region border district of Karonga.
Midfielder Wongani Lungu’s double and one goal each from Nigerian Babatunde Adepoju, Chikumbutso Salima, Maxwell Gasten, Hassan Kajoke, and Songwe’s Zebron Mwaseghe’s own goal sent Bullets to the summit of the 16-member league.
Babatunde scored from the penalty spot barely seven minutes into the game after Salima was fouled. Thereafter, Lungu took over the show, scoring inside two minutes for the 16-time champions to lead 3-0 at half-time.
In the second half, Bullets continued from where they had stopped as Salima scored two minutes after restart before Mwaseghe’s turned the ball past his own goalkeeper in the 52nd minute.
Two minutes later, Gasten extended Bullets’ lead before Kajoke scored with a minute to full-time, leaving Songwe winless in three games since their promotion into the top-flight TNM Super League.
Elsewhere, Creck Sporting Club’s hunt for a first win of the season under coach Joseph Kamwendo continued after they shared the spoils at 0-0 with Blue Eagles on Sunday in Lilongwe.
On Saturday, Kamuzu Barracks FC had gone top after flooring fellow soldiers Mafco 4-0.
