A total of 16 teams will start the chase for the TNM Super League championship and others mere survival as the 2025 season for Malawi gets in motion on Saturday.

On top of the menu is a battle of Peters as champions Silver Strikers welcome FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on Saturday to officially mark the start of the season.

This league opener penciled for Bingu National Stadium sees former Silver coach Peter Mponda facing his former assistant Peter Mgangira now in charge of Silver.

"We are eager to kickstart the season on Saturday, as the players are excited about the game. A win last week in the Charity Shield was crucial as it boosted the squad’s morale. We hope for a favorable result to maintain our momentum, ” Mgangira said

Mgangira replaced Mponda at Silver after the latter returned to childhood club Bullets.

Mponda took over the mantle from Zimbabwean Kalisto Pasuwa at Bullets. Pasuwa is now in charge of the national team meaning the Super League won't have a foreign coach for the first time in the last seven years.

The same cannot be said about players with leftback Dominic Musonda becoming the first Zambian to play in the Super League in over 20 years after he joined Bullets.

Musonda joins the foreign trio in Bullets camp including Golden Boot contender Nigerian Babatunde Adepoju and newly appointed captain Cyde Senaji.

Elsewhere, all eyes will also be on ambitious rookies Ekhaya FC, Blue Eagles and Songwe Border United, all newly promoted. Eagles are making a comeback into the elite league after spending a season in the second tier league for the Central Region while Ekhaya and Songwe are new.

Not only are there rookie teams but there are also coaching debutants such as Joseph Kamwendo of Creck Sporting Club and Enos Chatama for Ekhaya.

At the of the season, a champion is decided to take part in the CAF Champions League while bottom-three teams are relegated and replaced by three regional league winners. A season ends in February.
