Malawi women’s football champions Ascent Academy FC started their defence of the 2024 Goshen-FAM National Championship with an emphatic 4-0 whitewash of MK Academy FC in a quarterfinal match on Monday, March 17, 2025.

Striker Faith Chinzimu was the star of the show at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre, home to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), after scoring a second-half hat-trick to send Ascent into the semifinals.

The Lilongwe-based side had led 1-0 at the break courtesy of Alepharp Chimbeta’s 43rd-minute goal before Chinzimu cushioned the lead with strikes in the 56th, 61st and 63rd minutes.

As we went to press, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women faced off Kukoma Mtopwa Women in another quarterfinal on Monday.

The competition started over the weekend with national play-offs that saw Topik Sisters book their spot in the last-eight stage following a 3-2 win over Mighty Wanderers Queens on Sunday afternoon at the same stadium.

Topik Sisters came from behind twice to overpower Wanderers and advance to the quarterfinals to date Civo Service Ladies. Wanderers face Moyale Sisters in the other quarterfinals.

National play-offs were rescheduled from March 14-16  to March 17 and 18 2025 due to a threat posed by Cyclone Jude that affected some Southern African countries.

Third-place play-off and final matches will be played on March 22, 2025.
