The national play-offs for Malawi women’s football league have been rescheduled to March 17 and 18 due to the threat posed by Cyclone Jude that has affected some Southern African countries.

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) confirmed that the play-offs for the Goshen League have been shifted from Friday, 14 March to Sunday the 16th due to the cyclone.

“This decision follows updates from the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services regarding Tropical Cyclone Jude. The play-offs will now take place from Friday, 14th to Sunday, 16th March. The Quarterfinals have been scheduled for 17th and 18th March while semifinals will be played on 20th March,” a statement from FAM reads.

The playoffs will see Mighty Wanderers ladies take on Silver Strikers Ladies on March 17. Silver’s next match will be against Topic Sisters the following day with the latter meeting again with Wanderers.

The overall winner of this game will advance to the quarterfinals to date Civo Service Ladies and Moyale Sisters await the runner-up.

The other last-eight fixtures feature seeded holders Ascent Academy and MK Academy while Nyasa Big Bullets women take on Kukoma Ntopwa women. Third-place play-off and final matches will be played on March 22, 2025.

Meanwhile, Malawi’s Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services says Cyclone Jude ”is currently centered over southern Malawi (around Phalombe) and has significantly reduced its intensity as the center pressure is 1001hPa and moving southwest-wards at a reduced speed of 13km/hr." So far no casualties have been reported.
