Malawi senior women’s national football team striker Sabinah Thom has announced her departure from FC TP Mazembe Femení.
The Malawian parted ways with Mazembe at the end of her two-year contract which had an option for an extension but the Congolese outfit decided against exercising such an option.
The 29-year-old has since sent an emotional farewell message to the Congolese team.
“As I bid farewell to this incredible team and the city that has been my home for the past two years, I am filled with mixed emotions,” she wrote on her Facebook page.
“It has been an absolute honour and privilege to wear the @FCTPMfemeni jersey and represent this prestigious club.
Since joining the team in 2023, I have had the opportunity to be a part of some of the most memorable moments in the club’s history.”
Thom did not say whether she would rejoin Malawi Defence Force (MDF) Lioness, simply saying she was looking forward to another chapter.
“But beyond the trophies and accolades, what I will cherish most are the relationships I have built with some of my teammates, coaches, staff and amazing fans. You have become my family and I will forever be grateful for the love and support you have shown me,” the Malawian added.
“As I embark on a new journey, I want you to know that @FCTPMfemeni will always hold a special place in my heart. I will carry with me the memories, lessons and friendships gained during my time here.”
The Scorchers player won trophies with Mazembe most notably lifting the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco where they beat AS FAR 1-0.
The Malawian moved to the Congolese side MDF Lioness in 2023. She had previously had stints in Sweden at Kvarnsvedens and Simba SC in Tanzania.
