Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana is confident of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions turning their season around following a string of poor results in recent weeks.

Sundowns were held to a 0-0 draw by the Democratic Republic of Congo side, AS Maniema Union in the Group B opener of the CAF Champions League on Tuesday at Loftus Versfeld.

Ahead of their PSL fixture against Sekhukhune United at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, Kekana admitted to being dissapointed with the Champions League result but stayed positive that they will rectify mistakes and start winning matches again.

“It has been a tough week. We are disappointed with the result of the final, and we couldn’t get a victory in our first Champions League game, so we are trying to pick each other up. We know it’s still a long season ahead, and we can’t cry over spilt milk. We just need to rectify where we have to and make sure that we start winning games again,” he told the club’s official website.

“I think we are just trying to hold each other accountable. We each get given a task to do, to make sure that the team gets positive results. I think we have all been doing a lot of introspection, and we are happy that as teammates, we can hold each other accountable.”

Kekana warned his teammates against underrating Sekhukhune. He said: “When teams come and play against us, they are always fired up. We know that they lost their last game during the week, but they have a good squad and coach. It’s going to be another tough game, one that we need to prepare very well for to get our confidence back up.”

On his message to the fans, Kekana said: “We just need them to stick with us. We are going through a tough patch right now, and it happens. It’s not every day that things go your way, but we appreciate the support. We can hear them in every game, no matter how well or bad we play. They sing their lungs out, and we hear the drum. We encourage them to continue coming to support us. The tide will change, and we will start getting the rub of the green.”

Sundowns last league fixture saw them beat Polokwane City 2-0, before beating Marumo Gallants 2-0 in the Telkom knockout and then losing 2-1 in the tournament’s final against Magesi FC.
