In the second match of the Mapinduzi Cup hosted in Zanzibar, the Harambee Stars of Kenya and Burkina Faso ended all square in a 1-1 draw. James Kinyanjui gave Kenya the lead just before halftime but the East African nation conceded a late equalizer to Stallions forward Aboubacar Traoré to share the spoils.
Kenya, using the four-team exhibition tournament as preparation for the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals, took the lead in first half stoppage time. A free kick service from Ulinzi Stars midfielder Boniface Muchiri took a deflection on its way towards goal. Burkina Faso goalkeeper Mohamed Traoré did well to save but Kinyanjui arrived to sweep in the rebound for a halftime lead.
It looked like Kenya might earn the victory but the Stallions drew level in the 90th minute. Mohamed Guel found space on the right flank and the USFA winger whipped in a dangerous cross for Traoré to head in past Harambee Stars and Tusker FC keeper Byrne Omondi.
