Guest nation Burkina Faso clinched advancement to the final of the exhibition Mapinduzi Cup on Thursday following a 2-0 victory over the Tanzania Mainland select team. The West African nation will face either Kenya or Zanzibar Heroes who clash in the final group stage match on Friday with Kenya only needing to avoid defeat.
The Burkinabe team, featuring players exclusively from the nation's domestic league, continued to impress with another solid performance. The Local Stallions took the lead on the half hour mark when USFA attacker Abdoul Karim Baguian received a pass from Clement Pitroipa and finished low past Tanzania goalkeeper Ramadhan Chalamanda after his initial shot was blocked.
Pitroipa was the star of the show and the AS Douanes playmaker showed his class on Burkina Faso's second goal that arrived before halftime. The former ASEC Mimosas attacking midfielder maneuvered around a couple Tanzania defenders before firing an unstoppable effort into the top corner that left Chalamanda with no chance.
Now Burkina Faso will await either Kenya or hosts Zanzibar in the final after the teams face off on Friday. Zanzibar will need to defeat the Harambee Stars to advance to the final of the exhibition competition.
