Harambee Stars stand-in coach Francis Kimanzi has remained confident that his charges will get a good result when they take on Tanzania in their second match of the 2025 Mapinduzi Cup tournament in Zanzibar on Tuesday.
Kenya kicked off their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso and a win will keep alive their hopes of qualifying from the group stage. Speaking ahead of the game against Taifa Stars, Kimanzi stressed the importance of the players making the tournament a success.
“We have a very important game tomorrow (Tuesday), it is important for us because the players are ready to play, we have continuously been preparing for such matches, so the players are ready and I strongly believe they will give us a good game,” Kimanzi told Pan-Africa Football.
“I am confident they will bring good competition, a good environment for the fans to enjoy the game and we are not disturbed by the fact that we have a few knocks that we sustained from the previous match (against Burkina Faso), we are okay and ready to play.
“Have got some knowledge about the way the players like to do it in Tanzania but more important is the way they will do it against the players from Kenya because what I know is about individual players, my duty when I was in Tanzania was not my duty now.
“We are talking about two very different scenarios but all in all now it is about the players to make the tournament a success by doing their best and entertaining us because whatever we teach them, we want to see it on the pitch.”
Kimanzi concluded: “So it is for them (the players) to have fun and give the tournament what it deserves, the tournament deserves a better show, with a lot of fair play and with a lot of competition mentality and that is what the tournament deserves.”
Kenya will wind up their group matches against hosts Tanzania.
