Sudanese giants Al-Hilal put an end to a five-match winless streak late Saturday with a 3-0 result over AS Douanes in Mauritania's top division Super D1.
Talismanic captain Mohamed Abdelrahman scored twice after Ahmed Salem opened the scoring less than three minutes into the second half. Abdelrahman's second came just before the hour mark, completing a brilliant stretch that saw Hilal score all three of their goals in a fifteen minute span.
Salem got the scoring started by pouncing to finish a rebound from close range. Abdelrahman converted a penalty kick before slotting in a composed finish six minutes later to put Hilal beyond reach.
Hilal have played at least four less matches than every team in the Super D1 due to their CAF Champions League group stage duties but are only five points from leaders FC Nouadhibou. Saturday's victory provides the club from Omdurman with momentum after a lull in form as Florent Ibenge's squad prepares for the Champions League quarterfinals as well as a charge to the top of the Super D1 table.
