Mawuli Wayo: Hearts of Oak forward calls for calm after shocking FA Cup elimination

Hearts of Oak forward, Mawuli Wayo has sent a heartwarming message to the club’s fans after their shock exit from the MTN FA Cup.


The record holders of the tournament were knocked out in round 16 by First Division club, Golden Kicks fc on Sunday. After a nerve wracking goalless draw in the first half, the second tier side triumphed with a 4-3 penalty shootouts victory, qualifying for the quarter final.


The result has left the club’s teeming fans fuming with many still asking questions about the capabilities of head coach Aboubakar Ouattara. Wayo, who has scored three goals in the FA Cup up until their elimination has urged the fans to remain calm in the face of this challenging times.


“I want to sincerely apologize for our exit from the MTN EFA Cup. Losing on penalties is always tough, and I know we fell short of your expectations.


“Your unwavering support means everything to us, and we share your disappointment. “We fought hard, but it wasn’t our day.Thank you for always standing by us. We’ll come back stronger!. Much love and respect.” Wayo wrote on his Facebook page.


The Phobians, who were reduced to ten men following Theophilus Collinson’s marching off orders, will now turn attention to the Ghana Premier League which has been suspended over the death of Kotoko’s staunch supporter, Yaw Frimpong.


In other results, former FA Cup champions Medeama SC were also eliminated, losing 4-2 on penalties to Division One side PAC Academy after a 1-1 draw at the Tarkwa TNA Park.


Elsewhere, Berekum Chelsea produced a commanding 4-1 victory over Division One club Northern City. The former FA Cup winners showed their class, dispatching their lower-tier opponents with ease to book a quarterfinal spot.


Bechem United secured a hard-fought victory at Techiman Liberty and True Democracy beat Nania on penalties after a 1-1 draw and Karela United beat Young Apostles.
