Hearts of Oak forward Mawuli Wayo has been left basking in his brace that shot the club into an important win on Sunday in the 2024/24 Ghana Premier League.
Wayo, who joined the fray in the second half against Lions at the WAFA Park, made his presence felt with two late goals. Prior to joining the battle in a week 15 clash, the Phobians were trailing Lions by 2-1 with the two goals catapulting the millennium champions into a 3-2 win in the end.
The former Gold Stars forward spoke in a post match interview about the joy of scoring a brace. “I feel great, it’s been an honour to come into the game and score so I’m feeling amazing,” Wayo said.
“I knew that we would come back so I was not afraid of the game. I knew we would overtake them so I wasn’t afraid and no matter what I knew we would take the three points. These three points gives a lot confidence going into the next match and I wish the fans happy new year.”
The Phobians have now amassed 25 points, seated in 6th with just a point behind Nations FC and Bechem United and two away from Gold Stars and Kotoko. Leaders, Heart of Lions have five points better than the 2000 CAF Champions League winners.
