Former Black Leopards head coach Maxwell Konadu has given positive reviews about the South Africa's second tier Motsepe Foundation Championship, stating that the first division attracts better players compared to the Ghana top flight.
The experienced Ghanaian coach recently ended his marriage with the second division side Black Leopards which he joined after guiding the now defunct Nsoatreman to Ghana FA Cup glory last season.
Having joined the side on a two-year deal earlier this year, Konadu parted ways with the South African club on mutual grounds after strings of poor performances.
Speaking in an interview, Konadu, who previously managed several top Ghanaian clubs including Asante Kotoko, Legon Cities and Nsoateman, lauded the competitiveness of the South African second tier league.
“The second-tier league in South Africa is more competitive than the Ghana league," Konadu told Graphic Sports.
"They pay their players well, and that has attracted top talent. Even during international breaks, matches in those leagues are suspended because many players get national team call-ups,” Konadu explained.
The former Black Stars assistant coach has not given up on returning to coach in the South African league.
“My agent has been calling to see how I’m doing and all that, and once I’m home, I’ll wait for the next step to take,” Konadu said. "Definitely, I’ve spoken to several clubs. I only have to wait for the season to end but for now, we don’t have to go into which clubs are talking to me."
“Since my agent is based in South Africa, it’s clear the offers are coming from clubs there. So I may move back next season,” he confirmed.
