Brentford FC bounced back from their New Year's Day disappointment against Arsenal in a major way on Saturday with a 5-0 thumping of bottom side Southampton in English Premier League action.

Cameroon national team star Bryan Mbeumo scored twice and provided an assist while DR Congo forward Yoane Wissa set up Mbeumo's first strike before adding the final goal late on. After Kevin Schade opened the scoring for the visitors inside six minutes, Wissa queued up Mbeumo's strike into the roof of the Southampton net in the 62nd minute.

Mbeumo put the result beyond doubt seven minutes later when he converted from the penalty spot for his 13th league goal of the season, tied with Chelsea's Cole Palmer and Newcastle striker Alexander Isak for third on the scoring list.

Wissa also added to his tally, confirming the five-goal margin of victory with a low finish deep into second half stoppage time. It is the 28-year-old DR Congo national team star's 10th strike of the season in league play and brings his total to eleven in all competitions along with two assists.

Brentford, currently 11th on the Premier League table with 27 points, will return to action next Saturday in the FA Cup against Plymouth before hosting Manchester City three days later on January 14.
