Following the departure of MC Alger coach Patrice Beaumelle, the popular Algerian club has quickly settled on a new tactician ahead of their return to domestic league play this weekend.
According to Algerian media, a familiar face will return to MCA with Tunisian gaffer Khaled Ben Yahia set to be announced on Tuesday. Ben Yahia previously led the club during the majority of the 2021-22 campaign when MCA finished in eighth place. La Gazette du Fennec reports that the 65-year-old was selected by club management after also considering Egyptian coach Hossam El Badry and former CR Belouizdad coach Marcos Paqueta.
Ben Yahia was a long-time member of the Tunisia national team as a player and spent his entire playing career at Espérance ST in his native country. His coaching career spans over 28 years currently with nearly all of it taking place in Tunisian football other than his previous time in charge of MCA.
Previous coach Beaumelle enjoyed great success in the 2023-24 season, guiding MCA to their first Algeria Ligue 1 title in nearly fifteen years as well as a runner-up finish in the Coupe d'Algérie. However the team has yet to achieve consistent form during the ongoing season since the departure of star attacker Youcef Belaïli for Espérance. MCA currently sit in sixth place on the Ligue 1 table and second place in Group A of the CAF Champions League.
