After a much anticipated move to reigning Algerian champions MC Alger ahead of the 2024-25 season, French-Algerian striker Andy Delort is returning to French football on loan with Montpellier.
The 33-year-old returns to a club where he has enjoyed previous success with Montpellier having an option to purchase Delort permanently from MCA. Arriving with high expectations and a high salary for his first adventure in Algerian football, Delort did not reach the heights expected during MCA's Algeria Ligue 1 campaign as well as the CAF Champions League, scoring three goals in fourteen appearances across all competitions.
Delort previously represented French Ligue 1 side Montpellier over three seasons from 2018 to 2021 where he contributed 47 goals in 106 appearances for the club based in the Occitania region on the French Mediterranean coast.
The loan is an opportunity for Delort to make a fresh start with a return to a league where his quality is known. For MC Alger, the current holders of second place in Algeria's Ligue 1 have no shortage of options up top. 20-year-old French Algerian attacker Amine Messoussa continues to emerge as a revelation while the more experienced striker Soufiane Bayazid is also finding his form, leading MCA with three goals in their ongoing Champions League campaign.
