A stunning late strike from James Tarkowski saw Everton claim a well deserved point at Goodison park on Wednesday as the Toffees drew hated local rivals Liverpool in action from the English Premier League.
With Liverpool hoping to snatch all three points and extend their league lead to nine points, Everton were more than happy to play the role of spoiler and Guinea-Bissau national team striker Beto got the hosts off to a dream start. The former Udinese star snuck behind the Liverpool defense in the 11th minute to receive a free kick from Jarrad Branthwaite before finishing past Reds goalkeeper Alisson for his fourth goal in 2025 and fifth overall this season.
Liverpool did not let Beto's opener pass without a quick response and it was superstar Salah who set up the leveler five minutes later. After Everton failed to sufficiently clear a free kick service, the Egyptian received the ball on the right wing and picked out Alexis Mac Allister for a brilliant flicked header.
Despite the moment of quality to level, Liverpool continued to by stymied by a strong effort from Everton and the tactics of manager David Moyes. It appeared that the visitors may escape with maximum points, however, after Salah produced an opportunistic finish in the 73rd minute after Curtis Jones' initial effort was deflected to Salah on the right wing. Salah now has 22 goals and 14 assists in Premier League play from 24 matches.
But deep into stoppage time, the Toffees displayed their newfound grit under Moyes and it was defender Tarkowski who unleashed a crashing volley into the top corner after running onto a flicked header from substitute Tim Iroegbunam.
Liverpool remain seven points clear of closest rivals Arsenal but will feel like Wednesday was a missed opportunity for three points.
