Young Africans (Yanga SC) coach Miloud Hamdi has warned his players not to underrate Singida Black Stars when the two sides face off in a Mainland Premier League fixture at KMC Stadium on Monday.

The Tanzanian defending champions will have a great opportunity to move five points clear ahead of their rivals Simba SC if they win the game. Simba are not in action following the postponement of their fixture against Dodoma Jiji.

“We know Singida is a very good team with high quality players, but we are hopeful that we will have a good game against them,” Hamdi told Pan-Africa Football. “I will see what things I should change to my squad. You will remember we did not play well against JKT but Singida managed to beat them, and that is football.

“I’m not a big believer in past statistics though. You can have a good game today and have a bad game tomorrow. Those who know me know how determined I am to win every game we play, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that we have to respect the opponent.

“When I say I respect my opponents it doesn't mean I am afraid, I mean that football is a competitive game and everyone uses different tactics to try to win, so I must tread carefully and carefully even if I need to get three points.”

Meanwhile, Yanga player Israel Mwendwa said: “The league has been very competitive, Singida has signed many new players. There are so many changes in their squad, I don’t think it will be the same Singida since they have even changed the technical bench meaning even their tactics have changed.

“So we know we are going to encounter a tough and competitive game but we are well prepared to make sure we get victory.”

Yanga are currently sitting at the top of the league table with 49 points, two more than Simba. They have won 16 matches, drawn one and lost two.
