The FIFA World Cup is the pride of every nation and all countries take keen interest and invest a lot when the qualifiers for the global football showpiece is in session.
African nations pay particular attention to the qualifiers as a slot directly or indirectly boosts their economy in one way or the other. One country that attaches seriousness to the qualifying games is Nigeria.
The 2026 edition of the qualifiers resumes in March and former Nigeria international Ogenyi Onazi has called on the Super Eagles to give their all, warning that it would be a national embarrassment to miss back-to-back World Cups.
The Super Eagles are winless in their last four qualifiers and currently sit fifth in their group with just three points from four matches.
Speaking to Brila.net, the 2013 AFCON winner urged the players to approach the remaining fixtures with passion, commitment, and respect for the national badge.
“We have an amazing team, a world-class team. We just need to put ourselves in order and respect the badge,” said Onazi. “It’s embarrassing for us not to beat Rwanda. Of course, anything can happen in football, but there are some things that are not acceptable.
“I wish them all the best, they are amazing.”
The Super Eagles will resume their qualification campaign on March 17 with a must-win game against Rwanda, followed by a clash with Zimbabwe three days later.
