After scoring 72 goals in 118 appearances for Los Angeles FC heading into Saturday's Major League Soccer fixture against San Jose Earthquakes, it was a shock that Denis Bouanga was yet to score in 6 league matches this season.

However the Gabon national team star returned to form, scoring LAFC's second goal in a 2-1 victory over the upstart Earthquakes. Bouanga was on the scene to finish and double his team's lead late when Oliver Giroud's shot was spilled by Earthquakes goalkeeper Earl Edwards, Jr. The 30-year-ol now has 4 goals in 13 matches across all competitions.

San Jose found a goal in second half stoppage time but Los Angeles held on to put an end to a rough stretch. The club had lost their two previous league matches and were eliminated by Lionel Messi and Inter Miami from the CONCACAF Champions Cup on Wednesday.

But Bouanga and his teammates can now focus on their league matches and Saturday's result can build momentum for a strong run. LAFC will get ten days off before their next MLS fixture at Portland Timbers. They are sixth in the Western Conference with 12 points from 8 matches.
