Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi has for the first time discussed his decision to rejoin the Betway Premiership club despite having other offers on the table.
Having left champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the middle of the current campaign, the 58-year-old Mngqithi was jobless until four days ago when Golden Arrows announced his arrival ahead of their league fixture against the Brazilians.
And in the first game in charge, Mngqithi managed to end Sundowns’ five game winning run after securing a 1-1 draw. However, before joining Abafana Bes'thende, the South African coach had a lot of offers on the table including one from Rwandan Premier League giants APR.
He however, decided to return to Golden Arrows. Speaking on his decision, Mngqithi said his relationship with Arrow’s chairlady Mato Madlala made the difference.
“The difference between maybe where I come from and where I am now is that sis Mato understands me more than probably anyone else,” Mngqithi explained to the media after the match as quoted by SowetanLive.
“Our relationship is beyond the boss and the coach. We are brothers; even when I was at Sundowns, I was helping where I could help. So, the relationship is not about where we want to go. It is about making this team better and she knows she can sleep comfortably wherever she is because she knows I cannot sleep on duty.
“I enjoy my job and she knows there is nothing to doubt when I'm there because I'm going to give my best and that will be enough.”
With Golden Arrows’ next fixture against Orlando Pirates, Mngqithi will have enough time to prepare his squad for the next league fixture against Polokwane City at Old Peter Makoba Stadium on Wednesday, March 12.
