Nile League: Modern Sport appoints Abdelhak Benchikha to head coach position

Egyptian club Modern Sport has officially announced the appointment of Algerian coach Abdelhak Benchikha as the new head coach of the first team. Benchikha replaces French manager Franck Dumas, who was recently dismissed from his role.


The club has also revealed its new technical staff, which includes:


  • Abd AlHaleem Ali – Director of Football

  • Abdelhak Benchikha – Head Coach

  • Farid Zemiti – Assistant Coach

  • Ahmed Saleh – Assistant Coach

  • Daniel Jiménez – Assistant Coach

  • Farid Belmalat – Goalkeeper Coach

  • Kamel Boujnan – Fitness Coach

  • Performance Analyst – Arrives in Egypt in the coming days


Benchikha's most recent role was with JS Kabylie in Algeria, where he led the team in 15 matches, securing 8 wins, 3 draws, and 4 losses. Under his guidance, the team scored 22 goals and conceded 14 before he suddenly departed in January under controversial circumstances.


The Algerian coach has had a long and storied career, leading multiple clubs as well as the Algerian national team.


His coaching journey includes stints with:

  • Difaâ Hassani El Jadida (Morocco)

  • Al-Ittihad (Libya)

Throughout his coaching career, Benchikha has won several major titles, including:


  • CAF Confederation Cup (2022/2023) – USM Alger

  • CAF Super Cup (2022/2023, 2023/2024) – RS Berkane, USM Alger

  • Tunisia Ligue 1 (2007/2008) – Club Africain

  • Moroccan Throne Cup (2013/2014) – Difaâ Hassani El Jadida

  • Tanzania Federation Cup (2023/2024) – Simba SC

  • Qatar Second Division (2005/2006) – Umm Salal


Modern Sport is having a poor season in terms of results, currently sitting at the bottom of the Nile Egyptian League table with just 8 points from 13 matches. The team has achieved one victory, along with five draws and seven defeats.


The club has progressed to the Egypt Cup Round of 16, where it will face Zamalek on March 7th at 7:30 PM GMT.
