Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola has called on the club management to go for the services of experienced South African coach Pitso Mosimane if they want to conquer Premier Soccer League (PSL) and Africa.

The 38-year-old Makola, who turned out for Pirates between 2012 to 2019, made the revelations following the confirmation that current head coach Jose Riveiro will leave the Betway Premiership club at the end of his contract this season.

Mokala, who also played for Free State Stars, Cape Town City and Polokwane City, insisted that for continuity to prevail at Pirate, Mosimane was the only option to take the club forward.

Mosimane, who is currently Africa’s most successful club coach, left Esteghlal over payment issues and is currently a free agent.

“You know what, that’s football for you. Nothing lasts forever and coach Jose brought back the smiles on Pirates’ fans. Pirates supporters go to matches because of him and the way the team has transformed is because of him,” said Makola as quoted by FARPost.

“I’m really happy with his contribution to our football. I hope his teachings don’t fade away within the team and its players. Lastly, I’m saying bring coach Pitso [Mosimane] if you want to continue with what Jose has already built. If you want the league and to conquer Africa, then he is the right person.”

Pirates are currently chasing for trophies in three fronts – CAF Champions League where they are in the quarter-finals stage, Betway Premiership and the Nedbank Cup.
