Malawian striker Richard Mbulu has after weeks of speculation finally parted ways with record Mozambique league champions
Costa do Sol ahead of the new season in the former Portuguese colony. Costa do Sol have released a statement confirming the departure of the Malawian international who has been linked heavily with a switch to former Mozambique champions UD Songo.
“Costa do Sol Sports Club informs its members and supporters that player Richard Mbulu is no longer part of their football squad," reads the statement.
"We thank the player for the commitment and effort shown over the years in which he wore the jersey, contributing to our objectives on and off the field, and wish him success in the next stages of his career.”
Mbulu is a highly rated player who first joined Costa do Sol in 2018 before leaving for Portugal only to make a U-turn to the Maputo outfit followed by a switch to Baroka FC in South Africa. The player, who is also a soldier, returned to Costa do Sol last season.
The Maputo-based team has since signed Congolese forward Ali Alidor Kayembe, formerly of Ferroviario da Beira, alongside former UD Songo midfielder Jimmy Ukonde and 25-year-old Gulamo Salimo who has joined from Pemba FC.
“As a midfielder, he stands out for his quickness and agility, being excellent at linking defence to attack, with a sharp play vision and the ability to distribute accurate passes. We are confident he will be a key player in our team,” the statement adds.
Ukonde is among the team’s new signings alongside 25-year-old Gulamo Salimo who has joined from Pemba FC. “Gulamo is a quick, efficient player with a strong collective spirit, always putting the team's interest first. With a sharp play vision and refined technique, it promises to bring creativity and dynamism to our midfield,” the statement reads.
Costa do Sol boast an unparalleled 10 domestic league titles and are Mozambique giants alongside UD Songo.
