Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko dug deep to secure a hard fought win in the MTN FA Cup quarter-finals against True Democracy.

The Ghana Premier League record holders nailed the second tier club by 2-1 at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, March 30, sending them into the semi-finals of the competition.

The Porcupine Warriors took the lead early in the 13th minute through forward Saaka Dauda who capitalized on a quick throw-in and fired home to put Kotoko ahead. Kotoko had a golden opportunity to double their lead in the 38th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Kwame Opoku was brought down in the box.

However, Justice Blay failed to convert, striking the post and keeping True Democracy in the game. The miss was costly as True Democracy found an equalizer in the 61st minute with a deflected free-kick beating goalkeeper Mohammed Camara.

Just when the game seemed headed for a penalty shootout, Kwame Opoku stepped up with a dramatic stoppage-time winner in the 93rd minute to seal the victory for Kotoko. Kotoko will now face Berekum Chelsea in the semifinals, with the winner set to meet either Attram De Visser or Golden Kick in the final.
