Zesco moved one point clear of second-placed Power Dynamos who missed a chance to go top after being held one-all by Green Eagles at the Independence Stadium in Choma.
Brian Masanyinga had given Power the lead with a 31st minute strike only for Ghanaian striker Ameenu Moro to snatch the point with an 84th-minute equalizer. Elsewhere, Kabwe Warriors lost their six-game unbeaten run after a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Nkwazi, courtesy of Kenneth Kasanga’s 63rd-minute goal.
Record 13-time champions Nkana also eased to a 2-0 win over FC Muza at Nkana Stadium where defenders Chitoshi Chinga and Mathews Banda scored in the 59th and 64th minutes for fourth-placed Kalampa.
Elsewhere, struggling Zanaco and Mufulirwa Wanderers drew 0-0 just like a meeting between Nchanga Rangers and Green Buffaloes while Athletico Lusaka edged Indeni FC 2-1.
On Sunday, holders Red Arrows condemned Forest Rangers to a winless run of seven games after beating them 1-0, leaving them third from bottom. The defending champions are in fifth place, two points behind Zesco.
Still, on Sunday, Napsa Stars won 1-0 against Lumwana Radiants.
