Uganda Cranes left-back Mustafa Kizza has shed light on his experience at Egyptian second-division side Telecom SC, where he is yet to make his debut since joining in October 2024 from Uganda Premier League side Express FC.
Speaking about his time in Egypt, Kizza admitted it has been a period of adjustment but remains optimistic. "Life hasn’t been so easy, but I thank God I am trying to cope. You know how life can be when you’re not in your country. At the club, the situation isn’t bad because the players respect me for my profile. I guess I have the biggest one amongst all the players here given the previous clubs I have played for," he revealed exclusively to Pan-Africa Football.
On why he is yet to feature for Telecom SC despite training with the team, Kizza cited unresolved financial matters with the club. "I haven’t yet played for the club despite training because of financial challenges. We agreed on some things, but the club is yet to fulfill them. I am hopeful they will, and I will play soon," he explained.
Kizza is not alone in his journey in Egypt, with support from fellow Ugandan players Joseph Ochaya and Joachim Ojera, who play for Arab Contractors, and Allan Kyambadde of El Dakhleya.
"My friends Joseph Ochaya, Joachim Ojera, and Allan Kyambadde have been supportive since I came here and are helping me adapt to the culture," Kizza noted. Telecom SC, whose ambition is to earn promotion to the Egyptian Premier League, currently sit third on the table with 19 points from 10 matches, four points behind league leaders Al Makawloon.
The club faces Tanta SC at home today as they aim to close the gap at the top. Kizza’s professional football journey has seen him play across three continents.
Before his move to Telecom SC, he had stints with Major League Soccer (MLS) side CF Montréal in Canada and Portuguese outfit Arouca SC. His move to Telecom SC marks his third international club, adding another chapter to his growing career.
