Nanziri crowned champion as Ugandan stars shine across the globe

Resty Nanziri was the standout performer among Ugandan footballers abroad over the weekend as she guided East Bengal to the Indian Women’s Premier League title following a crucial 1-0 win over Odisha.


The forward played a key role in the title clinching game, writing her name into the club’s history books. In India as well, Fazila Ikwaput was in fiery form, scoring four goals (a haul) in Gokulam Kerala’s 4-1 thumping of Nita FA, continuing her brilliant scoring run.


Meanwhile, Juliet Nalukenge added her name to the spotlight as she inspired 1207 Antalya Spor to a 2-0 victory over Dudullu, sealing the league title and promotion to Turkey’s top flight.


India: Fazila Ikwaput was on fire, netting four times in Gokulam Kerala’s commanding 4-1 victory over Nita FA. Sharon Namatovu started from the bench for Gokulam. Joanita Ainembabazi played for Kickstart FC in their win over Sethu FC, where Aminah Nababi was also involved for the opponents.

Turkey: Juliet Nalukenge delivered again for 1207 Antalya Spor, featuring prominently in their 2-0 win over Dudullu to win the league title and secure promotion.


Joan Nabirye was solid in Trabzonspor’s 4-0 win over ALG Spor. Natasha Shirazi featured for Bornova but couldn’t prevent a 5-0 loss to Beylerbeyi.


USA & Canada: Bobosi Byaruhanga put in a full 90-minute shift as his Oakland Roots beat FC Tulsa 2-1. Jayden Onen nearly lasted the whole match for FC Naples in their 2-1 win over Richmond Kickers.


Allan Oyirwoth turned out for New England Revolution II in a narrow 1-0 loss to Orlando City B. Shadia Nankya was an unused substitute in Dallas Trinity’s 3-0 defeat. Allan Enyou featured for 90 minutes in Vancouver FC's 4-1 loss to Atletico Ottawa.


Czech Republic: Isaac Muleme played the entire game as Zizkov drew 1-1 with Jihlava. Aziz Kayondo came on in the 67th minute and helped Liberec to a 2-0 win over Hradec Kralove.


Scotland: Jordan Obita had a solid outing, playing 90 minutes in Hibernian’s emphatic 4-0 win over Dundee FC. Elvis Bwomono missed out on the matchday squad as St Mirren edged Ross County 3-2.


Iraq: Richard Kasagga featured for Al Karma in their 1-1 draw with Al Talaba.


Denmark: Robert Kakeeto was ever-present in midfield for Middelfart, who came from behind to beat Hellerup 2-1. Phionah Nabbumba was in fine form, completing 90 minutes as Midtjylland saw off Koldings 2-1.


Italy: Elio Capradossi played a full match in Cittadella’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Sampdoria.


Romania: Mahadi Kayondo Mahrez came on in the 58th minute to help CSM Slatina secure a 0-0 draw with Ceahlaul.


Ethiopia: Alex Kitata was on the bench as Shire Endaselassie narrowly lost 1-0 to Welwalo Adigrat.


Serbia: Pius Obuya was on the bench for Radnicki S Motrovica during their 1-1 draw with Sloven Ruma.


Sweden: Calvin Kabuye was an unused substitute in Mjallby’s 3-0 win over Hacken, while John Paul Dembe didn’t make Hacken’s squad.


North Macedonia: Shafik Kagimu completed the full match as Brera Strumica edged Pelister 2-1. Rogers Mato featured for 64 minutes in Vardar’s 2-2 stalemate with Tikves.


England: Toby Sibbick was an unused substitute in Wigan’s goalless draw with Wrexham. Giouse Bellagambi watched from the bench as Barnet were held 1-1 by Wealdstone.


Zambia: Keziron Kizito featured in the Absa Cup as Kansanshi lost 3-2 in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw. Hashim Sempala and Ronald Sempala were on the bench as Kanye Warriors lost 2-0 to Power Dynamos.


Vietnam: Geoffrey Kizito “Baba” played for 63 minutes in Binh Duong’s 1-1 draw with Da Nang.


Tanzania: Steven Mukwala started on the bench but was part of the squad as Simba SC progressed with a 3-1 win over Mbeya City in the Federation Cup.
