Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has explained why he turned down an offer to coach Tunisia national team and pledged his loyalty with the South African club.
The Tunisian coach was reportedly among those shortlisted to take over the Eagles of Carthage job amid their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification bid, which would have required he leaves his current position with Amakhosi, whom he had joined just seven months ago.
However, addressing the issue after Chiefs' 1-0 win against Stellenbosch FC in a Betway Premiership fixture, Nabi said as quoted by FARPost: “I’d like to say thank you to Dr Kaizer Motaung, to Kaizer Jr, Bobby Motaung and the entire management.
“I have been offered an opportunity to go coach my country and we [Chiefs management] have sat together and decided that I’m going to pass this big opportunity to coach my mother country. But I feel it’s an honour to be here and I say thank you to everyone and the management.”
Chiefs are currently sitting fifth on the league table with 25 points from 17 matches. They have managed to secure seven wins, four draws and suffered six defeats.
Amakhosi will shift their focus to the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 fixture against Chippa United at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
