Enock Ssebagala’s eighth-minute header proved decisive as NEC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over KCCA at the MTN Omondi Stadium, completing a season double over their city rivals and closing the gap on league leaders Vipers SC.

Ssebagala rose highest to nod home Geriga Atendele’s pinpoint cross from the right, handing NEC their third consecutive win and fourth in their last five outings. The army side also edged KCCA 1-0 in the first-round encounter.

Coach Abdallah Mubiru’s KCCA, who have won two, drawn two, and lost one of their last five matches, suffered their fourth defeat in 16 games, remaining in fourth place on the league table. With 11 wins from 16 matches, NEC now share the same number of victories as table leaders Vipers, who sit atop with 37 points, having played one game fewer.

Hussein Mbalangu’s NEC trail by just one point, while KCCA remain fourth, 13 points adrift of the summit. Elsewhere, Mbarara City edged Mbale Heroes 1-0, with Henry Kitegenyi scoring an 80th-minute winner.

The victory, Mbarara’s fifth of the season, lifted them three places to 10th on 20 points. Mbale Heroes, meanwhile, stay bottom with just 10 points from 16 games.

At Bombo Military Barracks Grounds, UPDF and Kitara played out a goalless draw. Kitara remain eighth with 22 points, while UPDF sit 12th on 18 points.
