It was as dramatic as it could possibly be in Gqeberha on Saturday evening! Kaizer Chiefs joined rivals Orlando Pirates in the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup after a drama-filled 3-1 quarterfinal victory over Stellenbosch FC at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Inacio Miguel put AmaKhosi ahead in the first half from the penalty spot before the final thirty minutes of the match produced a pulsating conclusion. After Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen was sent off in the 77th minute, Andre de Jong equalized for Stellies in the 87th minute and it seemed like Chiefs' cup run was on the verge of ending.

However, AmaKhosi rallied despite the numerical disadvantage and Pule Mmodi provided the match winner in stoppage time. Initially disallowed by the linesman's flag, a long conversation between the officials added further drama before the decision was given to allow the goal to a rapturous response from the crowd composed of a Chiefs majority.

Mfundo Vilakazi confirmed victory a few minutes later with an easy finish and Chiefs joined Soweto nemesis Orlando Pirates in awaiting the other two semifinalists. Durban City face Marumo Gallants on Sunday in another quarterfinal while a date is yet to be set for Mamelodi Sundowns' clash with Sekhukhune United after the match, initially scheduled for Saturday, was postponed.
