Head coach of Stellenbosch FC Steve Barker has expressed joy over the performance of his charges following the victory over Polokwane City.

Stellenbosch defeated Polokwane City by 2-0 in their Nedbank Cup round of 16 tie at Danie Craven Stadium on Thursday night, sending the club’s teeming fans into ecstasy.

They are through to the quarter finals of the competition thanks to an own-goal from City defender and captain Bulelani Nikani before winger Devin Titus added a second before half-time.

While impressed with the team's overall display, Barker says he wanted more from the playing body. "Pleased with the result and the performance, I thought, especially in the first half and especially the first 30 minutes, we were difficult to contain," said Barker in comments reported by SABC Sport.

"And I'm a little bit disappointed that maybe we didn't get a second [goal] earlier, Devin [Titus] obviously had the big chance, but I thought we played some really good football.

"It seemed like they struggled to cope with us playing both [Andre] De Jong and [Lesiba] Nku as sort-of false-nine and 10 positions, and then obviously Devin and 'Kaka' [Khomotjo Lekoloane] giving us the legs to get in behind.

"And I thought the two midfielders [Ibrahim] Jabaar and [Genino] Palace really were on top of their game in terms of turnovers and applying pressure in the midfield, and we were a bit unlucky maybe not to get anything from that.

"We were also solid at the back and didn't really give them any opportunities to capitalise. I'm a little bit – I wouldn't say unhappy but, I just thought we took our foot a little bit off the pedal and should have just nailed and buried the game with the dominance we had."
