As expected, heavy favorites Mamelodi Sundowns are through to the Round of 16 following a 5-2 victory over lower division side Sibanye in South Africa's Nedbank Cup.
It wasn't as comfortable as expected even though the first half indicated a stroll in the park for Masandawana. Starlet defender Malibongwe Khoza opened the scoring inside ninety seconds with a header following a corner kick. Tashreeq Matthews doubled the lead in the 15th minute and added another before halftime.
But the third tier ABC Motsepe League side punched back early in the second half with two goals to make it 3-2 soon after the hour mark. Brazilian striker Arthur Sales quieted any doubts of a shocking result with an easy finish after a deflection went Sundowns' way. Despite a red card to Bathusi Aubaas soon after, Kobamelo Kodisang added one more in stoppage time.
The match that provided a little more suspense on Saturday was an all-Betway Premiership clash between Golden Arrows and Chippa United. All goals arrived in the final half hour as Chippa edged the Durban side 2-1 with Sinoxolo Kwayiba opening the scoring for the Chilli Boys. Brandon Theron equalized for Arrows but then scored an own goal soon after that made the difference on the day.
Second tier sides Durban City, Baroka and Cape Town Spurs also achieved victories on Saturday. Sunday will see four matches played with Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs among the teams in action.
