Top flight sides Orlando Pirates and Polokwane City joined Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 after securing victories on Sunday.
Two goals from Patrick Maswanganyi were enough for the Buccaneers to sail past Richards Bay with a 3-1 victory in Durban. Maswanganyi received assists from on fire playmaker Relebohile Mofokeng to score twice in a five-minute span in the first half.
Richards Bay pulled one back early in the second half but the top division relegation candidates could not find an equalizer. Tshegofatso Mabasa provided the insurance goal in the final moments for the Nedbank Cup holders who have now won three matches in a row in all competitions.
In another early cup match from Sunday, Polokwane City also advanced with a 1-0 victory over third tier side The Bees. Raymond Daniels scored the only goal of the match early in the second half to help the Betway Premiership side overcome the stingy part-timers based in Mpumalanga Province.
UPDATE: Kaizer Chiefs had no issues in the later match from Sunday, defeating ABC Motsepe League side Free Agents FC by a 4-0 score. Any hopes of a shock result for the third tier side were quickly extinguished by a first half brace for Pule Mmodi inside the opening half hour. Angolan defender Inacio Miguel and Ranga Chivaviro added second half goals to see AmaKhosi through to the Round of 16.
There will be only one match from the Nedbank Cup on Monday with Betway Premiership sides Sekhukhune United and Cape Town City set to clash at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
