SuperSport United are the first club to qualify for the quarterfinals of South Africa's Nedbank Cup after the Betway Premiership side defeated second tier side Cape Town Spurs in a 2-1 extra time victory on Wednesday.

A dream start for the Motsepe Foundation Championship club put Spurs ahead after Therlo Moosa's 5th minute goal. However, SuperSport responded through promising defender Ime Okon, who reacted quickly to a loose ball in the penalty area to fire home before halftime.

Neither team could find a winner in the second half as the match moved on into extra time to determine a victor. Spurs nearly took the lead again in the opening five minutes but Colin Ryan fired just wide from outside the penalty area with SuperSport keeper Ricardo Goss clearly beaten.

With penalty kicks appearing to be needed, SuperSport avoided any extra tension when excellent work on the left wing from substitute Oratilwe Moloisane set up former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Lebohang Maboe for a powerful finish into the roof of goalkeeper Neil Boshoff's net.

The action continues from the Nedbank Cup on Thursday with an all-Betway Premiership clash between hosts Stellenbosch FC and Polokwane City.
