Newly-appointed Magesi FC's coach Owen Da Gama says he has not joined the newly promoted Betway Premiership team in South Africa "to change the world."

He spoke to South African Broadcasting Corporation television for the first time since joining the Limpopo-based side Monday. Da Gama said his predecessor Clinton Larsen laid a strong foundation on which he could build a strong squad.

"It is just a matter of turning the corner as there is a lot of quality; a lot of good players and I think Clinton did a good job, coach Papi [Zothwane] and Jacky Ledwaba have done a fantastic job," he said.

The former Orlando Pirates mentor said the team has quality players hence it won't be difficult turning the corner. "It's not about coming to change the world. It is just coming to tweak and motivate some top players such as Gift Motupa," he said.

"I have just come to add value to what is happening here...I am proud to be part of a club with a good history within a short time."

Da Gama is the latest addition to Magesi’s coaching panel, joining Zothwane who was the interim coach and will now revert to his substantive role of an assistant coach alongside Ledwaba.

The trio has been tasked with steering Magesi away to safety after losing five straight Betway Premiership matches, including 1-0 to Orlando Pirates last weekend, to drop into the relegation zone.

Larsen threw in the towel after a 3-0 loss to Cape Town All Stars last week, saying he felt he was no longer capable of motivating the players; hence management should try someone else to change the team’s fortunes.

The rookies stunned Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the final to win the Carling KnockOut Cup last month but have since been out of form.
