Stellenbosch FC’s new signing Thato Khiba has explained that he joined the Western Cape Town-based team in search of trophies.

The 28-year-old spoke about his ambition after completing his transfer from fellow Betway Premiership team, TS Galaxy, in South Africa Wednesday.

“It’s a beautiful club and town, and an all-round good environment. Stellenbosch is also a real football-playing team so it wasn’t a difficult decision for me to join the club,” he said.

Khiba said apart from team ambitions he is also driven by the desire to win silverware.

“It’s a change of scenery for me, but, as a player, I have to grow, so I’m very happy to be here. Every player wants to win trophies and I’m hoping to achieve that with the team and to contribute towards that goal,” he explained.

Khiba could debut for Stellies when they face AmaZulu in a Betway Premiership encounter on Thursday. Stellenbosch signed the midfielder days after selling Jayden Adam to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The team's CEO Rob Benadie said Khiba brings valuable experience to the squad after spending the last three-and-a-half seasons with Galaxy and Marumo Gallants. He also featured in the CAF Confederation Cup during the 2022/23 campaign where he helped Gallants reach the semi-final of the continental tournament.

Khiba will join familiar faces in Stellenbosch such as former team mates Lehlogonolo Mojela (TS Galaxy) and Ismaël Touré (Marumo Gallants).

Steve Barker’s Stellenbosch are strengthening their squad to compete strongly in the Confederation Cup quarterfinals and domestically.
