The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has called on all and sundry to support Super Eagles new head coach, Eric Sekou Chelle.

The former Mali national team head coach will be unveiled in Abuja on Monday, December 13 following the announcement last week. The unveiling event is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Media Conference Room of the MKO Abiola National Stadium.

Chelle’s appointment has sparked mixed reactions from the Nigerian football community, with questions raised about his suitability for the role. In response, the NFF acknowledged the differing opinions but urged Nigerians to rally behind the new coach to ensure his success.

NFF President Ibrahim Gusau emphasized the need for unity. “We appreciate the fact that Nigerians are very passionate about the game of football, and that is the reason for the different tones of reactions following the appointment of coach Chelle.

“However, the NFF hereby appeals to Nigerians to come together and support him, as we believe he has the qualities to achieve success with the Super Eagles.”

At Monday’s unveiling, the NFF will announce the names of Chelle’s assistants, who will form the new technical crew. The new coaching team’s immediate assignment will be to oversee the Super Eagles B team at next month’s African Nations Championship, CHAN in East Africa.

The primary focus will be on the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, beginning in March with matches against Rwanda (away) and Zimbabwe (home).
