Nigeria international William Troost-Ekong was on target but his goal could not help Al-Kholood as they suffered a 4-3 defeat against Al-Ittihad in a Saudi Pro League fixture at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium on Saturday.

The Super Eagles captain opened the floodgate of goals when he found the back of the net in the 15th minute before Myziane Maolida scored the second for Troost-Ekong's side in the 23rd minute.

However, Abdulrhman Alobud reduced the deficit for the home team in the 35th minute before Steven Bergwijn made it 2-2 from the penalty spot in the closing minutes before the half-time break.

The second half saw Hassan Kadesh make it 3-2 for Al-Ittihad in the 47th minute before Bergwijn scored again to make it 4-2. Al-Kholood launched a late comeback when Maolida scored but it was too little too late as Al-Ittihad held on to win the seven goal thriller.

The defeat left Al-Kholood 12th on the league table with 19 points from 18 matches. They have managed five wins, four draws and suffered nine defeats. For Troost-Ekong, he has now featured in 18 league matches, scored two goals and provided one assist.
