Former Super Eagles captain Jay-Jay Okocha has charged the top brass of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the necessary powers to allow Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle do his job.

Chelle’s appointment by the NFF in Abuja last week has faced widespread criticism from fans with analysts questioning his credentials for the top job. Okocha, however, stressed the need to give the 47-year-old Malian tactician a fair and a friendly environment to prove himself.

“The decision to appoint the new coach was that of the NFF,” Okocha said during an interview with Lagos Talks FM. “I am not disappointed. We should give him a chance; let him do his job. Football is a results game.”

“We all want the team to qualify for the World Cup because we all benefit when they are doing well. This is a results business. If we don’t qualify, God forbid, he will be the first to know he has failed.”

When asked about the possibility of returning to football administration in Nigeria, Okocha expressed deep concerns about the systemic corruption in the country.

“The level of corruption in our country in every sector is too much. If you’re surrounded by people who always have ulterior motives and personal agendas, it just won’t work. Let him do his job,” Okocha said.
