In another embarrassing turn of events, the Cairo Derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek was cancelled after Al Ahly didn't appear for the match.

The game was scheduled to take place on Tuesday at 7:30 PM GMT at Cairo International Stadium as part of the first round of the Nile Egyptian League title decider phase.

Al Ahly refused to attend the match in protest against the appointment of an Egyptian referee for the game. Meanwhile, Zamalek's squad and the match officials arrived at the stadium on time and entered the pitch.

The referee adhered to regulations, waiting for approximately 20 minutes before officially calling off the match due to Al Ahly’s absence.

What's next?

According to league regulations, Zamalek should be awarded a 2-0 victory, while Al Ahly should receive an additional penalty of three points deducted from their total.

This decision would leave Al Ahly on 36 points, sitting in second place, six points behind league leaders Pyramids (42 points), who still have a match to play against Al Masry in this round.

As for Zamalek, the awarded victory would increase their tally to 35 points in the third place of the standings.
