Orlando Pirates star Nkosinathi Sibisi has spoken out on how tough it was for them playing against Stellenbosch FC on Sunday.

The defender said the Buccaneers could not have scored even if 90 more minutes were added to the Betway Premiership game in South Africa.

Sibisi spoke to Pirates media after the Cape Town-based side handed the deposed league leaders their first defeat, 0-1 at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg where Devon Titus scored for the visitors.

“We are very disappointed to lose against Stellenbosch at home. They got only one chance and they took it,” he said.

The former Golden Arrows defender then detailed how the defensive tactics of Steve Barker’s men frustrated the MTN8 champions. “They had a low block which was very difficult to break down. But we move on. This team has character, even when we conceded, we didn’t keep our heads down. We kept pushing for an equalizer,” the centre-back explained.

“Credit to Stellenbosch; they came up with a game plan and it worked to their favour. Even if we had played another 90 minutes, still we could not have gotten a goal.”

In an earlier post-match interview, Riveiro attributed the defeat to his side’s failure to convert scoring chances.

“I don’t think our performance today was for a single point. Stellenbosch fought incredibly for every action and every meter. [There was] no drama. Nobody is invincible. We got our first defeat in the league. It is time to recover tonight. We have a big game on Saturday,” he said.

The loss saw Pirates going down to second place on the log table while still at par on 21 points with leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns who have a superior goal aggregate.

The Buccaneers will head to Egypt for a crunch meeting with CAF Champions League defending champions Al Ahly in a group-stage game on Saturday. The South Africans started the continental journey with a 2-1 win over CR Belouizdad in Algeria.
