Enyimba FC, under the chairmanship of legendary Nwankwo Kanu, has reinforced the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) team’s squad with eight new acquisitions as they seek a return to sunny days.

The Arsenal legend told the club’s website that he desired to see Enyimba competing strongly in the NPFL and Africa after signing centre-back Afolanyan Peters from Heartland FC, attacking midfielder Opeoluwa Olufemi (ex-Sunshine Stars, and striker Junior Lokosa.

Stars also sold to Enyimba midfielder Gozie Umeh, Quadiri Olusunkanmi has joined from Heartland FC alongside left-back Solomon Onome, Nelson Micheal, formerly of Shashemene Kanema in Ethiopia, and defender Ebube Micheal.

Kanu said: “We are thrilled to welcome these talented players to our squad. They bring a wealth of experience, skill, and passion, which will undoubtedly strengthen our team.”

The new signings are expected to help Enyimba push for a strong finish in the league, as they lie eighth, 14 points behind leaders Remo Stars who top the standings with 45 points from 22 games.

The People’s Elephant, who recently re-signed former West Bromwich Albion striker Brown Ideye, are struggling to reclaim their glory and were recently booted from the CAF Confederation Cup group stage. These reinforcements are expected to make a strong impact in the domestic league for the two-time CAF Champions League winners.

Kanu took over the chairmanship from Felix Anyasi-Agwu in 2023 and is involved in the task of awakening the sleeping giant.
