Portuguese coach José Gomes has reached an agreement with Saudi Pro League club Al-Fateh to take charge of the team as confirmed in an exclusive statement to the Saudi sports outlet Arriyadiyah on Wednesday.
The 54-year-old coach decided to leave Egyptian giants Zamalek after less than a year with the club where he won the CAF Super Cup and CAF Confederation Cup. An official announcement of the deal with Al-Fateh will be in the coming days or even hours.
Speaking about his departure from Zamalek, Gomes told Arriyadiyah:
"In recent months I turned down many excellent offers because I love Zamalek. However, I’ve decided to terminate my contract now as I feel the circumstances do not support continued success and winning trophies. I hope my departure leads to improvements in the organization of this giant club in the world of football."
This marks a new chapter in Gomes' coaching journey as he takes on the challenge of competing in one of the most spending football leagues in the region.
