Zamalek SC has been dealt a significant setback as after Tunisian defender Hamza Mathlouthi was diagnosed with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Dr. Mohamed Osama, the head of the medical staff for Zamalek’s first football team, revealed the results of the medical examinations and scans conducted on Mathlouthi after the injury he sustained during the match against Modern Sport.

Speaking to Zamalek's media center, Dr. Osama confirmed that the scans showed a complete tear in the anterior cruciate ligament of Mathlouthi’s right knee. The medical team head added that arrangements are being made for Mathlouthi to travel abroad and undergo ACL surgery.

Mathlouthi sustained the injury on Thursday evening during Zamalek’s Egyptian Premier League match against Modern Sport, which ended in a 1-0 loss for the White Knights.
