Kenya striker Michael Olunga was on the scoresheet as Al Duhail beat Al Arabi 2-1 on Friday to lift the Qatar Stars Cup at Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium in Qatar Sports Club.
The Red Knights first attempt on Al Arabi goal came in the 17th minute after Luis Alberto received the ball on the edge of Al Arabi penalty area and shot powerfully towards the goal, but Al Arabi goalkeeper managed to control the ball, preventing Duhail’s first goal from reaching his net.
However, Olunga opened the scoring in the 27th minute after Ghanem Al-Menhali penetrated from the left side and sent a precise cross to the Kenyan captain, who skillfully converted with his left foot into Al Arabi net.
In the 36th minute, a remarkable exchange between Luis Alberto and Olunga almost saw Al Duhail add a second goal, but the brilliance of Al Arabi goalkeeper prevented Alberto’s cross from hitting the back of the net.
Duhail doubled their lead in the 39th minute when Benjamin Bourigeaud finished a solo run before slotting to an empty net. Al Arabi reduced the deficit in the 55th minute and they should have gone level in the 77th minute when they were awarded a penalty after a VAR check but Duhail goalkeeper Bautista Burki’s saved the resultant kick.
