Kenya international Michael Olunga claimed two assists as Al Duhail SC defeated Al-Wakrah 3-1 in the semi-finals of the Qatars Stars Cup at Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Stadium on Friday.

Though he was not on the scoresheet, the towering Harambee Stars captain played a key role for the Red Knights after he set up the opening goal scored by Benjamin Bourigeaud in the 49th minute.

However, Olunga’s Duhail were pegged back in the 58th minute when Ricardo Gomes levelled matters from the penalty spot, sending goalkeeper Bautista Burke the wrong way.

The former Gor Mahia striker then masterminded the second goal to put Duhail 2-1 up courtesy of Bourigeaud. Olunga received the ball from the middle of play, raced towards goal before pulling all the defenders to his side.

He noticed that he could not score from his position and Bourigeaud was alone in the penalty area. He crossed the ball to Bourigeaud to power it home with his right-foot.

Ismail Ali Heider put the game to bed for Duhail after finishing off a neat cross from Luis Alberto. Olunga and Duhail will return to action with a Qatar Stars League fixture against Qatar SC on January 11.

Duhal are currently sitting top of the league with 25 points from 11 matches while Al Sadd are second with 22 points.
